Fisher Price Games Turtle Picnic Review

I bought this for my 2 year old for Christmas. My hope was that it would be a simple game that would introduce her to important social concepts needed to play games with others -- taking turns, following simple rules, trying to achieve a goal, etc. This game has met all of my expectations and is one of my daughter's favorite new toys. Playing this game has actually helped her understand the concept of taking turns -- no small accomplishment for an $8 toy!
Basically, the game is a variation of Concentration or Memory. The game cards are various fruits and vegetables in four colors. Each fruit or veggie has a match. The plastic turtles have shells that flip up to reveal one of the four colors. There are a couple of ways to play. In the easiest version, players can put the turtles out on the play area, draw cards, and use their memories to find the turtle that matches the color of that particular food. This is great for a beginner, because they only have to "concentrate" on the four turtles. More advanced players can play traditional Concentration, then find the correct turtle once they have made a match with two cards.
The turtles and the cards are sturdy, and the whole game comes in a chunky little cannister that is just the right size for a toddler. I highly recommend this as a first game for toddlers or preschoolers.
